DUCK ON DEBUT CLUB

It is estimated that about 30 percent of all people to have played for LJCC have enjoyed the illustrious thrill of losing their wicket without troubling the scorers on their first visit to the wicket. Three of the growing list of guilty "batsmen" even managed Golden Ducks, but the guilty will be protected for the time being.

  • Damir Alidžanovič

  • David Barnes

  • Urban Blaznik

  • Steffen Conn

  • Brad Eve

  • Steve Fish

  • Alasdair Green

  • David Gum

  • Darren Halford

  • Jaimie Henderson

  • Daniel Herakovič

  • Mike Hegarty

  • Maja Kezič

  • Rudi Lasnik

  • Greg McPartlin

  • Greg Milam

  • Murthy Nayarana

  • Robert Posl

  • Craig Sinović

  • Oliver Sims

  • Graeme Turton

  • Itsham ul-Haq

  • Nachikett Vaishnu

  • Mark Volkanšek

  • Roger Webb

Special mentions to Mike Sykes who got off the mark on his debut but hasn’t troubled the scorers again in a further 5 innings and to Jay Cook who has scored 0 from three innings though has, so far, only been out once, run out backing up. Congratulations in order for Alasdair Green’s marathon maiden innings duck from nearly 7 overs.

COULD THIS BE THE BEST ONE YET?

Greg McPartlin, having been coerced into playing in the pub late the evening before, returned to the cricket pitch for the first time in 25 years. Opening the batting he soon heard the dreaded clunk of his membership to the DOD club. Not content with that he grabbed the keeper's gloves and learnt the hard way about the bounciness of the Valburga pitch. Well done Greg - you are now an Immortal.

Congratulations to Greg Milam; he has just become the 20th and latest addition to the Duck on Debut Club. Having survived the first delivery (a wide) he left nothing to chance by playing an unusual shot to his first legitimate delivery. In essence, it involved shuffling both feet in no determinable direction and apparently choosing to forego the use of his bat as the full, straight ball rearranged his furniture.

After less than two weeks of ignominy as the latest entrant, Greg has been usurped at the head of the DoD Club by Craig Sinović. Craig, a Croatian international, came into his first game for Ljubljana with a track record of ducks on debut at both domestic and international levels in Croatia. He certainly did not fail us!! An attempt to blast his third delivery back to Zagreb failed to clear the man at mid-wicket, thereby ensuring a hat-trick of ducks on debut. Well-done Craig!

Another on loan player and long-term viewer of meek dismissals for the "roundest of all figures" Mr Graeme Turton, on loan for the day from Scottish cricketing and drinking team Morton CC, stepped up to the plate for only his second innings after a nasty hip operation. Cue elegant dance down the wicket to chip to vacant section of the field, only to slightly mishit it to inevitable brilliant catch from normally unreliable fielder. Soundtrack - much raucous laughter from unforgiving Morton players. Welcome to the club Graeme!
