Ljubljana CC vs HCC Zami (Holland) 10th May 2008
Ljubljana CC's very first ever match was against a team from
Holland way back in 1997. Now as we faced our 2nd visitors from
The Hague quite a lot has changed. Most importantly is the
increase in local talent. Over this weekend we had 7 Slovene
cricketers who had seen or tried cricket first in
Slovenia. After playing each other in the Slovene National
Championships - they are now playing with Ljubljana against
quality opposition and competing brilliantly. As far as the
cricket goes, well we lost 2 games. We dropped some catches,
Brad took some wickets (3 for 21 and 2 for 43), Steve Mayland
belted some big hits (20) and bowled beautifully without luck as
is customary for Skofjaločan opening bowlers (0 for 35) but the
best thing was seeing the likes of Roman Garbas (2 for 39 - game
2), Simon Kaučič (0 for 10 - game 2), Jaša Zidar (0 for 26) and
the inexhaustable Bohinc brothers - Domen (0 for 33 and 3 for
45) Gregor Bohinc (2 for 30 and 1 for 44) and Rok (1 for 51 and
0 for 26). All 3 also scored a few runs and looked comfortable
with the bat as well. All of them will be feeling far more
confident as we go into battle against the Saracen Riffs from
the UK this week.
We would also like to thank our new friends from Holland for
really making it an enjoyable weekend and for the wonderful
gifts they presented to us after the match. We hope to perhaps
return the favour and pay a visit to you guys in future.

Adding insult to injury. After snapping
an achilles tendon this HCC Zami player was then made to
wear this viking helmet. Why? Who knows? These Dutch
guys seemed to think it was a good idea

Our Jaša
fared a bit better than the chap to left. He was given a
bat that had been used by a Dutch player in 2 world
cups. Of course this meant that someone had to put a
sticker of a half naked Paris Hilton on it.
