LATEST NEWS HEADLINES Last updated Tuesday 24th August 2010 Century for Mark, batting record smashed in thrilling run chase in Vienna weekend Mark celebrates a fine 100 Ljubljana CC played 2 Open League matches in Vienna over the weekend, which saw us narrowly lose one of the most exciting matches we've ever been involved in. Needing an improbable 391 to win against Sri Lanka CC, we fell short by only 12 runs thanks to 96 by Dave "Ben" Oldmeadow, 74 to Mark Oman and some lusty hitting from the tail. Sadly Dave was denied his century after hitting a disallowed 6 on 96 (due to local rules it was a dead ball) and then being run out by a bad call from his partner. 379 for 8 easily beat our previous highest score set only 2 games before against Graz Mark and Dave celebrate a milestone during one of their consecutive century partnerships The previous day Dave had smashed 53 in 45 balls while at the other end Mark had scored his 2nd century (115) for the club against the best bowling attack we have faced in a very long time. Our 265 wasn't enough to win the game however, but it was without doubt one of the best displays of batting by Ljubljana ever over the whole weekend. The team in front of the scoreboard. L-R front -Kapil,Rob, Chris, Jaša, Hassaan, Back – Dave, Mark, Brad, Matt, Nejc (missing – Ayyaz) Ljubljana CC win 3 in a row, break new record score. Ljubljana hosted Graz CC at Valburga on Saturday 10th July and in an extremely hot day managed to hit our highest team score ever. Lalantha (40) hit some huge early sixes, after Matt Charlesworth had compiled a brisk 21. But it was Dimitris who showed how to celebrate the birth of his son with a brutal 93 (including 8 sixes). Brad added 34 in a vital partnership of around 130 and Thanga smote 3 big sixes at the end to help us reach 295 all out in the 47th over. Lalantha's 3 wickets, 2 each to Kapil, Brad and Simon helped us restrict Graz to 210 for 9 and another 2 points in the open league was ours. Ljubljana CC on winning streak! Ljubljana cc celebrated its 13th anniversary with its 2nd win in a row, beating Old Stringonians CC (UK) by 40 runs. In an extremely fun game captained for the 1st time by local boy Jaša Zidar we scored 165 with Dan Bendall scoring 32 and Dave Farrell 29. Our bowlers restricted the UK team to 120 and that winning feeling was felt for the 2nd time in 8 days. The highlight for most of the specators was Sanja Makaric's direct hit from near the boundary to complete a brilliant run out. Slovenian under 13 team wins first match vs Croatia. In a triangular tournament featuring under 13 teams from Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia - our boys managed a convincing win in their first match against the Croatians. Hungary proved a little strong for them, but I'm told it was quite close.

Ljubljana CC defeat The Jelly Bellies (Eng) - Game vs Carmel CC (Wales) washed out The mighty dragons managed another win in season 2010 after defeating The Jelly Bellies from England. Rob Crawford scored 71, Simon Kaučič grabbed a 4 for to add to his 21 and Jaša chipped in with a few wickets in an enjoyable match. Hopefully someone will have a picture of the Jelly Bellies Monkey dressed as David Boon in an authentic 1983 Australia kit somewhere. Sadly the game the following day was called off due to unreasonable amounts of rain falling all day. Scores to follow
Long day in the Velden sun against Lords CC We've played worse and done better, we've lost by even more in the past. However we can't escape the fact that Lord's managed to collect 469 for 7 from their 50 overs in our match last Saturday. Extras and sloppy fielding hurting us in particular. In reply we managed 182 all out, with only Lalantha and Dave "Ben" Oldmeadow reaching scores of 20 plus. Scorecard to follow. (sorry I still haven't been sent it yet) Vienna CC too strong for Ljubljana Despite a partnership of 84 between Dave "Ben" Oldmeadow (45) and Chris "Slogger" Bishop (43), and an brisk and entertaining 34 from Lalantha, Ljubljana's score of 188 all out never really troubled Vienna CC who won the game by 8 wickets on a very hot day in Velden
Narrow loss despite hat-trick on debut vs Vienna Lions CC Ljubljana CC almost made it 2 wins from 2 matches after an exciting 3 wicket loss against Vienna Lions CC on Saturday. The Highlights included the Ljubljana debuts of 4 players. Welcome to Dave, Dimitris, Hassaan and Matej. Dimitris managed to become the first ever hat-trick taker for the club as well as taking a wicket with his first ball in his spell that resulted in him taking 5 wickets. Happily no-one took their membership of the dreaded Duck on Debut club.
