3 wicket loss vs Velden in Southern Plate

Despite a strong batting performance by Ljubljana (Mark 73*, Lalantha 46, Matt 30) we were just unable to get the last 3 wickets we needed to win the match. All the bowlers (Domen, Nejc, Mark, Rok and Lalantha) picked up wickets. There were 2 very sharp catches taken - one by Matt on the very first ball of the Velden innings and a sharp chance by Rob Crawford in the slips.

National squad to be named for Cyprus next week

The 13 man National squad for the European Cricket Championships Division 4 which is being held in Cyprus in September is being named next week. Many new players are expected to be receiving their first caps. Slovenia will be playing against Luxembourg, Cyprus, Finland, Switzerland and Austria in that order

Last wicket partnership of 126 snatches victory

In an incredible finish the friendly match between Swingers CC and Ljubljana on Sunday we saw certain victory snatched from right in front of us. After scoring an impressive 181 off 35 overs (including a blistering 78 to Matt Charlesworth), we bowled well and had the opposition reeling at 9 for 65. However Swingers captain Pete Harris hadn't read the script and started to feast on some of the part time bowling being employed by then. Soon he was seeing them like a football and scored his maiden century dragging his team with him for victory with 2 balls to spare.

Vienna roadtrip = 2 more losses

Unfortunately we lost both games on our recent rescheduled Vienna trip against Pak Falken CC and Five Continents CC

London trip = great success

A group of 12 players and hardcore fans recently completed Ljubljana's first ever UK trip. We won 3 games and lost 3 games along the way and had a fantastic time. We will certainly be repeating it next year.

On the field we saw some wonderful batting from our boys with some huge hitting from Slogger, Stefen and Matt - as well as a great 50 by Tom and a fine 95 not out by Mark. We must also remember Jaša's arrogant dispatching of his first ever boundary with the whole of the fielding team back on the ropes. Simon's first ball in England broke the stumps of the bemused batsman and Mike, Jaša and Simon all performed well with both ball and bat.

Uroš Seničar bats for Žabarji against Mežica

Mežica make it 3 years in a row

In a repeat of the previous 2 finals Mežica defeated Maribor to add a 3rd trophy in the Slovenian National Championships at Valburga. Bela Krajina finished 3rd and Žabarji 4th.

8 Man Ljubljana lose to Pakistan CC

Due to a case of double booking Ljubljana CC had a league match on the same day as the Slovenian National Championships. Ljubljana batted first and Tom Furness showed some scintilating form, smashing 77. Debutant Dan Bendall figured in a 128 run partnership with Tom, showing some veterans clearly how to avoid the dreaded Duck on debut Club. Pakistan chased down our 165 fairly easily, but lost 5 wickets along the way.

Wins for Maribor and Bela Krajina

Yesterday saw an entertaining match between Žabarji and Bela Krajina at Valburga. Chasing 99, Bela Krajina looked in trouble at 3 for 30 until Egon Jakofčič joined son Uroš and a big partnership between them helped them seal the win (Uroš hitting a big 6 to do so).

In the other game both the undefeated teams met at Maribor. Maribor appeared to be in trouble in their innings until Domen Bohinc scored a blistering 70 including 4 sixes. Mežica couldn't match Maribor's score in the end and Maribor earned this years' first bragging rights.

Austrian League EGM to take place this week

An Extraordinary General Meeting is taking place in Vienna this week to attempt to resolve the current crisis. The controversial 'Six and Out rule' at Markomannenstrasse as well as the future of the Executive committee and Chairman's job are all to be resolved.

It is expected that the remainder of the season will be rescheduled once the meeting is complete, as currently the League is officially cancelled.

Vienna Weekend Postponed

Due to the unusual situation in Austrian cricket, this year's Vienna Weekend has had to be put back to a later date

Loss to United Nations CC

Mainly due to some extremely poor batting we suffered a big loss against UNCC in Velden.

Although we did collect 5 wickets, our total of 92 (Tom Furness 36) was never going to be enough to defend.

Heavy defeat to Salzburg in 2nd league match

A 10 man Ljubljana suffered a 9 wicket loss to Salzburg on Sunday. Some lofty hitting by Chris "Slogger" Bishop being one of the rare highlights. Ljubljana 102 all out Salzburg 103 for 1

Big wins for Mežica and Maribor in round 2 of Slovenian League.

Mežica  194/6 were big winners over Bela Krajina 36 all out in round 2 of the league. Primož (78) and brother Aleš (41) were the big scorers.

In the other game, Maribor were big winners over Žabarji in what we're told was a terrificly fun match. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Žabarji player Neja Meglič who broke her finger and had to spend 3 unhappy hours in the casualty ward  waiting to get it wrapped in plaster.

First Austrian League Match

. Loss to Vienna Lions but fine  performance by young team

Ljubljana played its first match in the Austrian League this year with a young team including 5 cricketers who had first learnt cricket in Slovenia

Vienna Lions won by 5 wickets chasing 132, but the score didn't really tell the full story. All 3 Bohinc brothers impressed with both bat and ball.
