Where can we find more
information about Ljubljana?
The website
of the
Ljubljana Tourist Board
can provide you with all manner of useful information about
visiting us, including accommodation.
Will we have any language problems?
English is spoken extremely well by a very large amount of
Slovenes. In all tourist based places around town they will
speak English well.
If
you fancy trying to learn a few words.
Here is a
great link for some of the basics.
How do we get to Slovenia? For more information on this
subject click

is very accessible, and Slovenia has almost completed its
motorway network. Tolls are payable on Slovenian motorways, in euros
Nightlife /
Entertainment
The centre of
town is full of outdoor bars, cafes and restaurants (often all
rolled into one). A very pleasant afternoon can be spent sipping
a cold drink watching the world go by. Popular bars include
Cutty Sark and As (both next to each other) and "The beach" area
along the river including such bars as Maček and Casablanca.
Generally, they are all of a pretty similar standard and a good
time can be had in all of them.
Nightclubs
include Bacchus and Global. Global is popular and has a
magnificent view via glass elevator and rooftop of the city of
Ljubljana and the castle. Bacchus is located only a couple of
hundred metres away. The Metelkova complex offers an alternative
scene as is located not far from the train station around the
Backpackers hotel Celice.

What is the weather
like?
During our long cricket season from Late April to Late September
/ Early October we are generally blessed with ideal weather for
cricket. Lots of sunshine and warm weather from between about 25
to 35 degrees can be expected. Summers don't tend to produce a
lot of rain. We suggest bringing sunscreen and hats.
For the latest forecasts we find that this link is one of the
most accurate. It also has some good information on Ljubljana
and Slovenia itself.
Where do cricket teams normally
stay in Ljubljana?
Visiting teams to
Ljubljana normally stay in the Hotel Park. Centrally and
conveniently located, we have always had satisfied teams when
staying there. For more information click
here for the accommodation section. If you require 4 or 5
star accommodation we can also assist you with your requests.
We can book your
accommodation for you.
Where is the ground?
Ljubljana
CC play our home games at Valburga pri Smledniku, which is about
25 minutes by car from central Ljubljana. The
front page
of your favourite website features a photo of our ground. A map
of its location can be found
here.
Is Ljubljana expensive? (Prices quoted here April 2006)
No. Slovenia is
definitely one of the cheapest European cricket destinations.
Prices of everyday items here are still relatively cheap,
despite EU accession on 1 May 2004.
For example,
0.5 litre beer =
€2.10
2 dcl wine =
€2.10
20 cigarettes =
€2 -
€3
Main Course (A la carte)
€6 - €15
Set tourist menu =
€6 - €10
Pizza = €5
- €8
1 litre Petrol =
€1
What is the currency?
The Slovene
currency is now the Euro.
Do we need visas?
As of 1 May 2004
Slovenia is a member of the EU. You will not need a visa to
enter Slovenia if you are a citizen of the EU, or if you are
entering Slovenia from another EU country.
Visitors from
outside the EU may require visas. There are certain countries
whose citizens require visas to enter Slovenia if they are
entering from outside the EU. This currently includes South
Africa, India,
Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This is not a problem,
provided that you can supply us with all of their details,
including:
Name
Date of birth
Place of birth
Nationality
Permanent address
Name and address of employer (if any)
Passport number
so that we can
send you letters of invitation.

homepage.

Cricketing Questions
What sort of
pitch do you have?
Our pitch is a
synthetic mat on concrete. For those who have not played on such
a surface before it can provide a bit of bounce if the bowler
tries hard enough, but is generally fairly true. We always
recommend wearing helmets for those unfamiliar with such a
surface. Most players in the region do.
Do we need to
bring our spikes?
In short, no. As you
will see in the question above, our pitch is not conducive to
their use.
So, are you guys
any good then, or what?
For those who have
never encountered European cricket you may be unaware of the
standard. You will probably find a combination of "The Good, the
bad, the average and unique." You may find yourself facing a
handy quick, a gentle slow bowler or a complete beginner. The
team is generally a combination of ex-pats from all around the
world with a healthy mix of locals who have decided to play
cricket. Don't expect the Ashes, but don't
expect complete ineptitude either (although we do a good
impersonation of it sometimes.)
