Mežica CC vs Maribor CC at Ručnik nad Mežico

History
was made in Slovenian cricket on the 2nd May 2007 when we had the first
domestic match between 2 sides (not involving Ljubljana). Maribor CC
travelled to Mežica up there in the mountains of Koroška.
Maribor
President Paul Freebairn tells the story.
The day
started quite early for some of us as we had to set up the Flicx pitch.
After picking up the pitch from the centre of Mežice we
ventured up into 'those hills over there' , 'off the asphalt, onto
macadam then onto a forest trail...'

Interesting ground, must go down in the annals of cricket history as one
of ' the most unusual cricket pitches ever'.

We decided to play 2 games, the first was a 15 over game which Mežica
won and the second was a 10 over game that Maribor won with a whopping
great 6 smacked well over the stream
(....um boundary) by Manish off the last ball taking Maribor's score to
20 winning by 6 runs. (I think.....)

Mežica CC supplied the mandatory grill and beer for
a good dinner set in an amazing place. All in all everybody had a lot of
fun.
and we finally got MBCC off the ground and after only 2 practice
sessions were able to
field a full team of very inexperienced but enthusiastic players who
performed extremely well
for their first game.

ages playing cricket. |
